Last FURever home of 2012 goes to....

Zeus! This guy has a heart of GOLD and is so sweet I can't believe it took as long as it did to find his FURever home... but obviously he was waiting for this family! He just knew they were his FURever family! Zeus had grown attached to his foster family and they to him, but foster moms know best. She knew as much as they loved Zeus his FURever family was out there someplace waiting on him. So what better day than New Years Eve to get a new start on life! Zeus was abandoned and came to rescue needing surgery to repair his eye. His foster family nursed him back through surgery and helped him become the love bug he is!

Here is the best part of this story. His FURever family originally came to rescue with some idea of what they thought was the perfect dane for them but after going through the process and allowing our Match Maker Program to work they choose Zeus! I am not sure they would have ever looked at him in a shelter or ever picked him on their own but I think everyone agrees it is the PERFECT match! So Congrats to Zeus and hugs to his foster family for a job well done!

busy busy busy elves!

Wow the GDRNT Adoption Elves have been wicked busy this weekend and found AMAZING FURever homes for two of our pups!

Ozzy came to rescue and was so scared the veterinarians listed him as deaf and vision impaired. Well after the love of a fabutastic experienced foster home we learned that he could see pretty well and hear plenty. He probably couldn't pass the driving test but that is ok because he is so full of love. Ozzy has been adopted by a repeat adopter and will live happy ever FURafter with his dane brother, kitty and FURever mom! Wait till he sees how she will spoil him! CONGRATS TO OZZY and his FURever home!

Our next match is Miss Candy Cane. It doesn't happen very often but occasionally we do get a dog that only thinks it is a dane. So it is with Candy who only has the heart of a dane. This sweet little girl was lucky to come to rescue as she was scheduled for euthanasia when we agreed to take her. True to her name this sweet girl won over the hearts of her foster home who has made her FURever just in time for Christmas.

SO CONGRATS to Candy and Ozzy as they are FURever home for the Holidays. We also have to say THANK YOU to those who made it all possible during this busy time of year to take time out to make this all possible.

Another FURever home for the Holidays!

I Picasso wanted for this Holiday Season was a FURever Family all his own! This dude is the real deal... looks and personality! All he wanted was a family of his own, maybe some kids to love on him and another dog to play with! Well the GDRNT Elves delivered in time for Christmas. Picasso is now FURever home and loving life! A huge thank you to his foster family and everyone who made this happen during this busy time.

Santa's Came Early for Bianca!

Not everyone can appreciate the benefits of adopting a senior. Too often they loose out at adoption meetings to a younger dog because people are afraid their time together will be too short. What people fail to see in that greying face is the love of a seasoned soul. Most senior danes are what I like to call "move in ready"... show them the bowl, the yard and the bed and they got the routine down. Generally there is no potty training, they already have leash walking down and know the difference between trash and toys. They are quick to learn without the distract-ability of a puppy. All they want is to be loved and to love you back. Some adopters are willing to trade the years to have a seasoned move in ready FURever love.

As of this morning one adopter has adopted his third senior. While I know he wishes he had more time with his first two the time he did have was cherished and so special that he did it a third time. His danes are lucky they get to go to the office every day, the lake on the weekends and evening walks around the duck pond.

Bianca has moved in and made this place home. She has already fallen in love with her FURever dad and knows she is safe and loved perhaps for the first time in life. She has the maturity to know a true loving FURever home when she sees it. She has earned this special home, the fancy beautiful collar, the soft bed and people to adore her all day. Even the mailman. Bianca "lights up" when she sees her FURever dad and it is hard to tell who is happier. So today Christmas came early for Bianca and her FURever dad.

Congrats to Bianca and her FURever home! And as always a huge thank you to those who fostered, transported or donated to make today happen.

and a partridge in a Pear Tree...

Honestly that seems to be the only thing missing from GDRNT news! First off a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has come to the Wine Cellar, City of Murphy and Woof Gang this month to support GDRNT and these great supporters. It was a ton of fun having everyone come out and show their generosity and Holiday spirit. But Santa has been busy too and two of our danes have found FURever homes this weekend!

Generosity of the Season has Blessed GDRNT

Meet n Greets are important to GDRNT. As so much of our community is "virtual" it is our chance to get out into the community. An opportunity to educate the public about GDRNT, our danes, the adoption process, our Matchmaker Program and share what we know about these gentle giants. Meet n Greets are simply a way to educate the public about who we are and what we do; they are not adoption events or fundraisers but about education and awareness. While we love to see a fun donation jar at Meet n Greets, it is the icing on the cake.

Yesterday we had a Meet n Greet at the Wine Cellar in Frisco and the generosity of the season hit GDRNT. David, Kristine & their rescue dane Sam donated a percentage of sales, raffled a great wine package to benefit GDRNT and donated personally. They invited customers who also gave generously and worked side by side with our fabulous volunteers to greet a steady crowd and promote GDRNT. At the end of the day the donations totaled enough money to cover intake vaccinations and testing for 6 danes! WOW and THANK YOU to the Wine Cellar family and everyone who came out.

The Holiday Spirit does not end there. Last week we also received a very generous anonymous donation to Divas Dudes and Danes hitting our Event goal for the year. So to "anonymous" we grant a heart felt Thank You!

GDRNT is a 501c,100% volunteer staffed and run so all donations go directly to the care of our danes. We are also 100% privately funded. Every donation of every size allows us to continue to pull danes from area kill shelters, medically treat, rehabilitate and FURever home great danes who have otherwise been discarded. To all of you we say THANK YOU for your continued generosity and support of GDRNT, without you we could not exist.

Cecilia is FURever home!

When Cecilia came to us we were not sure what was wrong with her... Her experienced foster mom took her to the veterinarian and even they could not believe it! Cecilia came to rescue with an extremely rare tick borne disease not generally found in Texas. My understanding is that she is only the second or third documented case in Texas! A distinction she could have lived without.. after months of expensive treatment and then having to undergo heartworm treatment this lady has finally found a fabutastic FURever home with an experienced, loving dane family!

Toby & Ava! FURever Homes!

So glad to announce some of our FURever homes! Adoption days are still some of my favorite! These two are FURever home but don't be surprised if you see them out and about!

Recent FUR ever homes!

Things around GDRNT have been busy busy busy! But don't let that fool you because two of our sweet girls fourn FUREVER HOMES recently! YIPEEE !

What is Divas Dudes & Danes?

Divas Dudes & Danes is a casual humans only evening where GDRNT friends new and old can come together to support a cause we all care about. A fun event that assures our mission can continue. Casa Milagro Restaurant has generously offered to host again this year and provide their supper yummy fajita buffet and a cash bar. There will be a great variety of silent auction items including a week stay in a Vail Condo, Golf Rounds, Hotel Stays, Gift Cards and great product baskets! We cap the evening off by closing Auction Tables and sharing Awesome Dessert! Just a fun evening!
