Please note - all money raised from this event goes straight to the vet bills that are a necessary part of saving unwanted animals. As you can imagine, giant dogs equal giant vet bills. At one of our most critical points, we had nearly 60 Danes under our care. For one month alone, our medical costs reached nearly $10,000 – even after deep discounts generously offered by our rescue veterinarians.

GDRNT’s Extreme Makeover

This sweet pair was in far NE Texas and suffering from a horrific case of demodex mange and nasty secondary infections that had accelerated beyond what their owner could handle. Demodex is a very treatable condition but the secondary infections can be fatal … and these boys were in trouble.

Marmaduke

Great Dane Rescue will be at Studio Movie Grill in Plano & Dallas
both on June 12th 10 am – 1pm to support the movie!

Marmaduke (PG), the world’s most lovable Great Dane, leaps from comic strip fame to big screen stardom.
The super-sized, lap dog is living the good life until beleaguered dad Phil (Lee Pace), uproots the clan from Kansas to California.
Marmaduke must navigate the volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf wars, woo the purebred of his
dreams, somehow triumph in a canine surfing contest, and overcome a fall from grace from his new four-legged friends.

Why We Foster….

I asked one of our foster moms to write about why she fosters….. have a tissue ready!!

“A forgotten birthday present turned out to be one of my best presents ever! For my 34th birthday, my husband somehow forgot or didn't get around to purchasing a present for me so to make up for it, he offered me the chance to foster a great dane which I had been dying to do for some time. That was 6 years ago and over a dozen fosters I have had the fortune of helping. I happily admit I am addicted to danes and love, love, love them.

Can you help save a life?

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED … Can you help save a life?

It’s raining danes! Our inbox is full of requests from area kill shelters with danes in need. GDRNT relies completely on foster homes to care for our danes while they await their forever homes. By fostering you help save a dane from a kill shelter and provides a second chance at a happy life!

Election Coverage

DNN Breaking News

The results are in and Guinness received 1081 votes. While not enough to win, this number is still very significant because it represents the number of Great Danes saved by this organization.

Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of donors, Great Dane Rescue of North Texas has changed the lives of over one thousand dogs that were tossed aside (and sometimes literally tossed on the side of the road). Guinness was one of those dogs and he will never take for granted the fact that he was given a second chance.

Less than one week away...

Don't forget, November 4 is Election Day. This is your chance to vote for the candidate that can effect change...and change the lives of thousands of abandoned and neglected pets!

We know we are a little biased, but we cannot imagine a better presidential platform:

Guinness Murphy wants to educate people about responsible pet guardianship - and he wants to make it clear that being a responsible pet owner goes far beyond just making sure a dog has food, water and shelter. He will push forward with his message until everyone in the United States understands the importance of spaying and neutering. He will not be happy until people realize the senseless pain of cosmetic mutilations like ear cropping. And he will not rest until he sees dogs taken off chains and moved inside the home with their families.

Vote with your heart, vote for Guinness!

Guinness Murphy's Fundraising Dinner was a MAJOR Success!

While most presidential candidates like to talk about 'campaign finance reform', Guinness Murphy, the only Great Dane in history to run for president, is doing something about it!

You're Invited to the Guinness For President Campaign Fundraising Dinner!

Guinness for President!

Who is this candidate?

He is the spokes-dog for all rescued pets in the United States of America!

Why should we send our "campaign contributions" to Guinness?

Because Guinness also stands for change! He is a breed who seeks responsible pet ownership, loving supporters and public education for all.

Important Information About This Organization

DaneLogo125.jpg

Great Dane Rescue of North Texas, Inc. is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical attention and foster care while seeking permanent homes for abandoned Great Danes in the North Texas area.

GDRNT works with animal shelters to save the lives of Great Danes on death row. Many dogs that come into our program are sick, injured or have suffered abuse but there are just as many happy, healthy, well-adjusted Great Danes that find themselves facing the euthanasia needle because of hardships faced by their families.

Save hundreds of thousands of animals from death...just by signing your name!

Please help stop the long, scary walk down death row for Dallas' homeless pets by supporting the mandatory spay/neuter ordinance

Please sign a petition encouraging the Dallas City Council to approve the Animal Shelter Commission's proposed mandatory spay/neuter - breeder registration ordinance and help stop the killing of 27,000 dogs and cats in the city shelter each year.

80% of the puppies and kittens from each litter born will end up in a shelter one day and, unfortunately, most of them do not find homes.

Click the words "read more" in blue to see some quotes left on the petition from just a few Great Dane Rescue of North Texas fosters/volunteers that will help explain why this ordinance is so important.

Chad - just one of the many certified therapy dogs adopted from GDRNT

I've noticed a trend in this blog of mine…I have been focused on Great Danes that come to us with serious issues (like Amy) or the Great Danes that come to us with two paws in the grave (Ruby and Oscar). Don’t get me wrong, it is important for all of you to hear their stories – because their stories must be told. But there are just as many perfectly healthy, well-mannered, no-issue Great Danes in our program that deserve some attention too.

One More BIG Thank You!

Shammy and Chad are so proud of their Mama!

We just cannot quit saying thank you! And for good reason - because this group has an amazing cast of volunteers and supporters who consistently go above and beyond to help Great Danes in need.

An example of going above and beyond is our very own Discussion Board Moderator, Sara Craven, who sold over $1,000 in tickets for our annual raffle item! (We believe this is some sort of record - we're just waiting for the world raffle sales record keepers to contact us with confirmation.)

Sara's devotion to rescue is truly a gift. But looking at the smiling faces of her two boys - both were fostered and adopted through GDRNT - it's easy to see why she works so hard. Click on the image to the right to see a bigger picture of Sara's special boys: Shammy (L) and Chad (R).

Laura Alton and Cristina Bruzda were close on Sara's heels in the 'who can sell the most raffle tickets' race, but Laura gets extra points for selling the winning ticket to one of her co-workers. David Williams, a personal trainer at Cooper Aerobics Center, lucked out when he gave Laura $11 (the only cash he had on him) as she was leaving work the day before the raffle. David got an amazing 52" Samsung TV worth over $2,000 for eleven bucks...and thanks to Sara, Laura, Cristina and the rest of the outstanding volunteers who worked hard selling tickets a whole lotta Great Danes will get a second chance at an amazing life.

Thank You - Houston!

Great Dane sized thanks to the following people for organizing the Houston-area Moms & Mutts event benefiting Great Dane Rescue of North Texas!

Judy Jones pulled in a fantastic team of people and they all worked their patooties off to raise money for dogs in need. Judy's dedication to this group and to Great Danes everywhere is awe-inspiring. We used to mention trying to clone her, but after seeing how hard her team in Houston worked on this event we don't think that's necessary anymore!

Kerra Turner
Stacey Memahen & Johnathan
Amy Megill
Heidi and Michael Walther
Frank and Loretta Turner

Because of the time and effort these folks put into this event, three Heartworm positive Great Danes will get a second chance at life. (cue in round of applause)
