Sock Boy

Duke has this sore up between his toes. I don't know if that is what you call them put it isn't on his pad more up between his toes. It is close to his pad so I think it is a little painful. I am not sure how long he has had it. I had noticed him licking his paws in the last week or so but he has been known to act kitty like so I didn't worry about it to much. Then on Sunday he was at the lake most of the day and I am sure probably irritated things. Yesterday I noticed he was favoring it a bit and after further investigation noticed the sore. Anyway, I have been trying to keep it clean but he can't seem to leave it alone so he has been senteced to sock wearing. He is less than thrilled with me. Anyway, I have been cleaning it with saline and putting neosporin on it but it seems it is going to take a long time to heal since it is up between his toes. Anyone else ever have this problem? Anyway, here is the sock boy. As you can see he is less than thrilled with me! He acts like I have sentenced him to a life of torture having to wear it. Anyway, I should have taken a picture of the sore but I didn't think of it until after I had taped his sock on. So, I will get it tomorrow moring. Also, today is actually his 6th Birthday! Happy birthday duke! He got a new toy and some treats but I don't think they make up for the sock. Poor, poor sock boy.

If Only

...my pups were as well behaved with things like that. Kahlia had a cut on her paw and when I tried to treat it she of course just licked everything off. So I tried the sock trick and she knows chewing socks is a nono....so she went over to brother Aki and had him chew it off! Sneaky pups!

Poor Duke

We had this happen with Spot. He had a nice cut in between his toes that was bleeding. I put neosporin on it and wrapped it up, but he was having a lot of pain and wouldn't walk on it. Took him to the vet to make sure he didn't have anything in his foot - they gave him some antibiotics and some pain pills, but said not to wrap it. The licking, as well as washing it with warm water once a day and exposure to air helps it heal...a couple of days of lovely pain pills kept him fairly quiet (for Spot anyway) and he really was much better after about 2 days.

reilly

has had a really bad sore between his toes for a couple weeks. we tried taking care of it ourselves and it was looking better but we took him to the vets last week to be sure.
reilly got a shot and has some meds to put on it and it's much better already.
not sure where it came from, reilly is really inactive now but sometimes he drags his back feet so that might have something to do with it.

hope duke has a very happy birthday!

Happy Birthday, Duke!!

Hope you get a big ole' puppy cake!!
I'd keep a very close watch on that sore... especially if he has been in lake water. He may need a round of antibiotics.

Happy Birthday to Duke.......

Happy sixth birthday Duke! Sorry to hear about your paw but it is still your very special day and you have a very thoughtful/creative first aid providing mommy! don't pout...it's tender lovin care!

Not all that creative

I got the sock idea online. I was reading that some lady put baby socks on her dog to keep him from licking paws and I thought heck I don't need baby socks all I need is an old sock of mine. He doesn't even try to get it off. Probably to lazy to try.
